Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared Tuesday a three-month state of emergency in 10 southeastern provinces hit by a serious earthquake that has claimed hundreds of lives.

“We now have determined to declare a state of emergency to make sure that our (rescue and restoration) work will be carried out shortly,” Erdogan mentioned in televised remarks.
